• 4 SEO Tips for Launching a New Website and New Brand

Launching a new website is hard. Launching a new brand with that new website can be downright madness.

Just ask Moz. Or iAcquire. Apparently, 2013 is the year of the marketing agency rebrand, and I’m happy to announce we’re part of that list, too: Last week, 352 Media Group became 352.

Those 2½ months spent building our new website and our new brand were the hardest I’ve ever worked in my life. They were also the most rewarding, and despite my incessant cursing, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Why? Because look at the old site:

    Holy wow.

Whenever you launch a site, everyone just sees the design change, but rarely do you see the behind the scenes – and I’m not just talking about design iterations, although there were probably 13 of those – work that goes into a new website. We’re assuming you’ve already redid your keyword and market research.

    That’s A Lot of Redirects

Thankfully, the domain didn’t change, but the URL structure did change to directory style. I used Ruth Burr’s template for domain migrations, but made some tweaks.

First, pull every single URL that’s on your root domain. I used both Screaming Frog and our database to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. Drop into Excel and start analyzing what’s going where on your new site.

We work in agile web development, which accounts for short sprints of work (in our case, two weeks at a time) when at the end we’d be able to launch full functionally pieces of our website. Think of it like building a house one room completely at a time.

Because this bad boy needed to be up before mid-July, the planned to launch with the Slim Fast version of our sitemap: A lot of pages weren’t going to exist yet, but they would soon. That meant a lot of pages of our existing site weren’t going to move yet, but they would.

So, in addition to the 301s and 404s, I added a section of what was going to be in Phase II to make our support departments’ lives a little easier. I think it worked.

    Analytics

I admit it: I didn’t remember to install the analytics code on our new site until 24 hours before the site launched. *Facepalm*.

Seriously: Don’t forget it, but also, don’t settle for the basic version. There is so much more that you can see with a little customization, and you need to think about what makes most sense for you. For us, there were three big ones:

    • Enhanced in-page to see where people were clicking.
    • Page scrolling to see how far down people were going on our pages.
    • Event tracking to see how people interacted with our video.
    • Event tracking to see how often people clicked on our contact information.

    Sitemaps

If your URLs are changing, so will your sitemaps. Don’t forget to generate a new XML sitemap and resubmit me that GWT to speed up indexation of your new site. We went the multiple XML sitemap approach, one of our main site and one for our blog.

Holy Crap: We Aren’t No. 1 For Our Name

That’s every SEO professional’s nightmare. We’re living that right now. We decided to change our name in January. In May, we took a match to our old site and started over from scratch. Around June, someone finally said “Hey, I wonder where we’ll be ranked with our new brand name.”

    Page 3. PAGE 3?!

Logically, it makes sense. 352 is the area code of Gainesville, Florida, our headquarters and our namesake. Sure, we’ve been known simply as 352 (tree-five-two) for 15+ years both by clients and internally, search engines weren’t making that connection.

Why would they? All of our brand links are 352 Media Group, and all of our content was 352 Media Group. We also don’t have nearly the social community that Moz does to blog, link and tweet the name change that would clued Google in sooner.

While our new brand does come with a whole new keyword targeting – Pro tip: Start your new keyword research very early – I couldn’t care less about our exact-match anchor text until we’re showing up No. 1 for “352.” How do you do it? Pull your backlink using your favorite tool, go down and find all of the links with your brand name, and start contacting.

Trust me: Start this process very early if you’re changing name, as in way before you officially launch. Start by reaching out to people who you know can queue up their change to go live on your exact launch date, for example, your author bio for any places you’re a contributor. Don’t forget to make sure your internal team changes any links they have on personal websites.

I’m in the thick of this now, and you never really realize how many brand links you have until you’re staring at a 4-digit long Excel spreadsheet.

    Keeping Momentum Post Launch

Last year, I went skydiving. There’s a moment about 30 seconds into your free fall where you convince yourself that the shoot should have opened by now, and this was going to be it. Then, the chord pulls, you shoot up vertically, and you feel the biggest rush of relief because you are, in fact, going to make it through.

At 3:52 p.m. – see what we did there? – on July 16, 2013, I got that same rush from the launch of our site.

And while the honeymoon of the new brand only lasted about 24 hours until my inbox was flooded with feedback, I needed that kick to keep up the momentum our team had with post-launch iterations.

There will be things you don’t think of. There will be bugs you missed. There will be internal feedback that makes more sense. There will definitelybe user feedback you didn’t even know existed. You need an organized way to keep track of all of this.

My agency used TFS and work through a backlog of items based off client priority and effort to complete the task. This helps us better see the cool things we want to do and where it lies based on priority.

It’s not the most intuitive, and we’re searching for some something a little more user friendly, but it works well enough for now.

If you’re going through a new site launch, I feel you, buddy. It’s long. It’s a pain in the ass. Sometimes, you just want to quit. It’s extremely difficult not to get discouraged, but the end result will be worth it.

Don’t get disappointed if you forget something. There’s a lot to do, and we missed a few “Well, duh” things post launch, but it’s OK. That’s the beauty of constant iterations.

  • Long life, no cooling fans: Intel’s 4.5W Core processors could blur the PC/tablet line

Comments Off on Long life, no cooling fans: Intel’s 4.5W Core processors could blur the PC/tablet line
    September 26, 2020 /  Computer Technology, Hardware

Windows tablets hold within them an implicit promise: To deliver the full Windows 8 experience in a svelte tablet form factor.

Unfortunately, the ambitions of Microsoft and its partners have thus far exceeded reality, largely due to processor power issues. Even the lowest of low-wattage Ultrabook chips simply sip too much juice, forcing manufacturers to house their hybrids in cases full of fans—a compromise that has left Windows tablets and convertibles thicker and louder than the ARM-based tablet competition.

No more. Intel announced Tuesday that new Core Y-series Haswell processors capable of fitting in thin, completely fanless designs are inbound “in the coming months.”

While Intel had previously announced its Core Y-series chips would run at a scenario design point—basically, an Intel metric for the power draw during sustained workloads—of 6 watts, the newly announced processors will dip all the way down to 4.5W SDP. (6W variants will also be available.) That 1.5-watt difference between the two is the difference between needing additional cooling and a potentially fanless design, according to Intel

Tablets and hybrid PCs with the 4.5-watt Core chips will offer more than nine hours of battery life on active usage, Intel spokesman Dan Snyder said via email.

Don’t expect to see crazy performance from such low-powered Haswell processors, however.

While the new chips will be able to boost to higher performance for short periods thanks to their 11-watt thermal design power rating—a “worst-case” power metric that measures the maximum energy used during heavy workloads—a large part of Intel’s ability to bring the cooling and power requirements down so far lies in underclocking the processor. Sustained boosting above 4.5W would strain the cooling capabilities of a fanless chassis.

Even still, a low-powered Haswell processor will blow the pants off both ARM chips andIntel’s own Atom CPUs, performance-wise, bringing true Ultrabook-like chops to a truly tablet-style design.

“I think there is a real market need for a fanless tablet or 2-in-1 with PC-level performance,” says Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy. “This is exactly where Intel’s new 4.5-watt [chip] comes into play… Even though the 4.5-watt Haswell will be clocked lower than the 6-watt version announced at Computex, it will have significantly higher performance than Bay Trail.”

While Moorhead expects production of low-watt chips to ramp up sometime in 2014, Intel says the first round of energy-sipping Y-series processors will be produced in limited quantities. It’d be a shock if those chips failed to show up in a Haswell refresh of Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablet.

  • Review SpeedUp Pad Phone

    September 25, 2020 /  Computer Technology, Hardware

In addition to the support for mobile work, the tablet PC is also widely used as a means of entertainment. Just as smartphones, tablet PCs are now available in the market with a variety of prices and specifications. Like one of these tablet PC products from following SpeedUp present for tablet PC users in the entry level segment.
    Concept & Design
Speedup Phone Pad is a tablet PC with 7-inch screen. The design is quite average and quite like tablet PCs in its class with aluminum alloy and plastic body and frame design of the screen is quite thick. Indoors, the display screen itself is quite good and still comfortably viewed with a screen resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels. However, like most local screen tablet PC is rather difficult to see under a blazing lighting conditions. For the body, Speedup Pad Phone has brought unibodi design that makes users can not remove the plastic cover on the back to remove the battery. Overall, light weight, the thickness of the body is quite fit and do not look cheap.
Although it can be used in portrait position, Speedup Pad Phone seems designed to be used in a horizontal position / landscape. This is evident from the presence of a resolution 2-megapixel secondary camera on the top of the screen (in horizontal position) and two speakers are located on the left side of the screen.
For port connectivity, SIM card slot, audio jack port, SD memory card slot and a mini USB port, everything is placed in the left side of the body. All ports and slots are placed pretty well there. But unfortunately, when a memory card slot for a memory card inserted, the memory card is not fully inserted into the body and look a bit obtrusive. Although not a little disturbing but this reduces the aesthetic value of the packaging and less unsightly.

    Interface
Speedup Pad Phone running the Android operating system Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4. The interface is relatively simple with the standard launcher without any touch or customization of the factory. This is a positive value in itself, because this performance with a simple interface feels relatively quickly because it is not burdened with a custom homescreen launcher used by tablet PCs in its class. But, if you are bored with the zoom you can still use another launcher that can be downloaded through PlayStore.

    Applications and Features
For applications and innate feature of SpeedUp Pad Phone also relatively minimal. In it you can find SpeedUp Studio which is a speedup store digital content that provide content such as music, magazines, apps, games and news feeds. For applications, in addition to relying on Google PlayStore SpeedUp you can also rely on the AppStore. While it is a list of applications available in PlayStore not much, but at least it is also a plus because the application is available to download for free.
If you have a security camera of SpeedUp, Speedup Pad Phone is also equipped SpeedUp Camera app to connect with your security cameras in order to monitor remotely. And for office, has been available Kingsoft Office applications, Notepad and Adobe Reader to open the file. Pdf.
And the last is the telephony features. In addition to being a tablet PC, Phone Speedup Pad can also be used to answer calls and sms as smartphones in general.
    Performance
Spur the kitchen sector, Speedup Pad Phone equipped with a single core processor ARM Cortex-A9 running at a speed of 1 GHz, 512MB RAM, and graphics sectors of PowerVRSGX 531 graphics chip. With these specifications, the value benchamark Quadrant that were achieved by SpeedUp Pad Phone is 2189 points which is in the bottom position 3. While the app AnTuTu benchmark test, the tablet PC won 3656 points, which put him at the bottom. To test the touch screen, with AnTuTu Screen test detected the screen can only accept input 5 fingers at the same time. Here are the results benchmarknya ..

Despite reaching the benchmark value was minimal does not mean the tablet PC is lousy loh. For testing we use everyday is quite impressed with its performance fairly okay. The screen is quite responsive compared to tablet PCs in its class. Switching between pages on the menu and homescreen feels smooth and does not feel significant lag. Even so, there are enough to make us wonder at the launcher SpeedUp Pad Phone. Every time you access a menu that contains a row of application performance is noticeably slow and visible lag. Whereas when pressing the home icon to return to the homescreen all running smoothly. Hopefully edepannya k SpeedUp can provide updates to address bugs like this.
    Multimedia and Gaming
For multimedia needs SpeedUp Phone has come up with music app, video player and radio. To watch a movie, we tried HD720p quality movies and 1080p. The default video player application is only able to play a video file format HD720p pretty well. And when running 1080p video file format image can not be displayed. If you want to watch movies in Full HD tablet PC, alternatfinya is using another video app that can be downloaded at Google PlayStore. But you also must be quite satisfied with the performance of the frame rate a bit slow and the battery certainly be more extravagant when playing Full HD content.
In addition to watching movies, Speedup Pad Phone can also be used for listening to music. But unfortunately, good for watching movies, listening to music, or playing games, performing voice though it is set at the maximum level still feels underpowered. Not only that, the capacity of internal storage space is only 4GB is also noticeably less if you save the video files in HD format, and music file format. FLAC or. WAV file size is generally large. But luckily still available memory card slot that can be used to increase the storage space up to a maximum capacity of 32GB.
And as an alternative to your current mobile entertainment, this tablet PC can still be relied upon to play the game. To play the games lightly with a simple display such as Angry Birds and Tiny Thief is a very capable tablet PC to play it. And what about the 3D games that require heavy graphics performance? We try to play racing game Real Racing 3. The result? Speedup Pad Phone can still be counted on to play a decent 3D game Real Racing 3 weight class pretty well.

  • Gateway DX4870-UB2B

    Comments Off on Gateway DX4870-UB2B
    September 12, 2020 /  Computer Technology, Hardware

The Gateway DX4870-UB2B ($499.99 list) is a basic tower desktop PC that checks all the boxes on what you need from a new desktop, particularly if you already have a LCD display that you’re carrying over. It’s speedy for its segment, has capacious storage, will let your family keep many documents open simultaneously, and it’s relatively inexpensive. Unlike the $300 bargain basement specials, the DX4870-UB2B$499.99 at Best Buy comes with a modern Intel Core i3 processor, dual-band Wi-Fi, and lots of drive space. It’s expandable, so it can grow with your family. It’s not ground breaking, but it’s a solid choice with a great bang for the buck, so it’s our latest Editors’ Choice for budget desktop PCs.

    Design and Features
The DX4870-UB2B follows other Gateway desktops, looking almost identical to the last black tower Gateway DX4870-UB17$329.99 at Newegg.com ($500). Like that model, the DX4870-UB2B comes in a tower chassis with black panels all around, including the plastic front panel and metal side panels. The system’s tray-loading DVD burner is hidden, but two of the system’s USB 2.0 ports, SD card reader, and audio jacks are exposed on the top front of the chassis. In the back, the system has four more USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, more audio jacks, and two connectors for the included WiFi antennas. It would have been nice if the front USB ports were USB 3.0 to accommodate USB hard drives instead of the slower USB 2.0.

The inside of the system is certainly expandable, with plenty of space to move around for future upgrades. The system has space for two additional drives: one optical 5.25-inch bay and one 3.5-inch hard drive bay. Theoretically, you could shoehorn another three to four 2.5-inch notebook class drives in the same space, provided you have the correct brackets to hold the drives. The motherboard has four free SATA ports to service these drives. The system also has two DIMM slots free, along with a slot for a PCIe 3.0 x16 graphics card and two additional PCIe 2.0 x1 expansion cards. One PCIe x1 slot is occupied by the included 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi card, which will serve most users well. This is an improvement over other budget systems like the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190$416.03 at antonline.com ($400) and Zotac Zbox ID83 Plus$448.99 at Amazon ($473), both of which don’t support 5Ghz WiFi, only the more common and crowded 2.4GHz channels.

The last consideration you have to make for expandability is the system’s 300W power supply. While sufficient for additional drives and minor expansion cards, 300W will be insufficient for a high-powered discrete graphics card with Nvidia’s or AMD’s highest end GPUs. You can of course swap out the included power supply, but most budget system buyers never open their chassis, even if they are tempted by the system’s expandability. Bring a screwdriver if you dare, because you’ll need it for the case door and the drive bays. At least the internal card slots are tool-less.

Like other Gateway systems, the DX4870-UB2B comes with quite a few pre-loaded applications and utilities. These include 7digital, Zinio, Kindle, eBay, Chacha, Netflix, NewsXpresso, Amazon, Tunein, Hulu Plus, Xbox Games, Cut The Rope, Stumbleupon, Skype, Merriam-Webster, Britannica, Spotify, Microsoft Office (ad), Norton Internet Security), and Wild Tangetn games. That’s a lot of pre-loaded apps, and most if not all are available for free from Microsoft Windows Store. While you may want to spend a few moments uninstalling all these programs, fret not, since the system has a capacious 1TB hard drive with plenty of free space left. The DX4870-UB2B comes with a standard one-year warranty.

    Performance
The system comes with a third-generation Intel Core i3-3240 processor, 6GB of DDR3 memory, Intel HD Graphics 2500 (integrated in the Core i3 processor), and a 1TB 5,400rpm SATA hard drive. All of these components mean the system is plenty fast on our benchmark tests, certainly faster than the Lenovo Q190 and the Zbox ID83 Plus. That said, there are systems in this price range that are faster, notably the Polywell Nano i3-Q7 ($595) which trades physical and storage space for SSD speed, and the Acer Aspire AT3-600-UR11$449.99 at Newegg.com($600), which has a discrete graphics card and slightly more powerful processor adding to its performance totals. Check the performance chart link to see the final numbers, but suffice to say the DX4870-UB2B has the performance to keep your family happy for the next five years or so.
